Encouraged to make an impact at Palo Alto Networks in Israel

Alma is a Technical Account Manager, charged with ongoing customer satisfaction and technical response at Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 – and she also does important work as a volunteer with ELEM, a home for girls and young women.

"There were a few years when I really wanted to volunteer there, but I didn't have the option because of the nature of the jobs I worked in, and when I started working in the cyber field, the opportunity opened up for me. The fact is that volunteering is encouraged here. I've never been in a place that encouraged volunteering so much. For the first two years I was a volunteer in the space – the goal is to create for them the image of a benevolent adult, most of the adults around them hurt them on one level or another, and our goal is to be the adults who are here to listen and help, without judgment. As part of the program, there is interpersonal accompaniment, an apartment in the city where they can lay their heads, eat, shower, laundry, etc., and its goal is to be a warm home and support for girls and young women. We are there for them."

After two years, a new project was opened at ELEM, a radio project - a private podcast that serves as a therapeutic tool. Alma was chosen to manage this project. "Once a month I come and record with whoever wants the podcast, it's a conversation on a therapeutic level. There's something about this format, when someone listens to you, and it's recorded. The recordings, of course, are not distributed by us, but the young women can choose what to do with the recording."

We asked Alma how she does all of this alongside a successful career at Palo Alto Networks. "My volunteering is encouraged," she says. "Once a year Elem launches an ambassadorial campaign. When the moment came, I contacted the staff and Palo Alto Networks participated. In addition, there are matching donations for every hour of volunteering I do … it's amazing."
